Justin GATLIN - U.S.A. - 100m & 200m sprint double at 2005 World Championships.

The main photo above shows Justin Gatlin (983) crossing the line to win the 200m Gold medal at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki. It completed a memorable double for the young American who earlier in the championships had won the 100m in fine style (see below). Wallace Spearmon (1030) won the silver medal, John Capel (972) the bronze and Tyson Gay (984) finished fourth to complete an unprecedented 1, 2, 3, 4 for any one nation.

The main photo above shows Justin in full flow during the heats of the 100m at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki. The inset picture shows Gatlin (four from left) storming to victory in the final in a time of 9.88, fully .17 secs ahead of Michael Frater (yellow vest alongside Justin) and Kim Collins (second right). Not surprisingly this was the greatest winning margin in the 100m at the World Championships.

On August 22nd. 2006, Gatlin accepted an eight-year ban from track and field, avoiding a lifetime ban in exchange for his cooperation with the doping authorities, and because of the "exceptional circumstances" surrounding his first positive drug test.

Gatlin appealed against the ban; an arbitration panel reduced it to four years at a hearing in December 2007.

His 9.77 s performance, set in May 2006, was annulled.

On August 3, 2010 Gatlin made his return to the athletics circuit after the four-year doping ban
