The race action pictures above show Kerron - 2nd from right - on his
way to the gold medal in the final
of the mens 400m Hurdles at the 2007
World Championships in Osaka. Felix Sanchez (to Clement's immediate
right)
won the silver and Marek Plawgo (out of shot) the bronze. The
other athlete in view is Greece's Periklís Iakovakis
who finished in 6th
place. It was a terrific performance by Kerron, his time of 47.61 a
world leading time for 2007.
He later commented "I'm really thankful to
come here and win a gold medal against the best, Felix Sanchez.
" "I'm
still young" he added. "I'm 21. I have a few things to work on. In 2005,
I left Helsinki without a medal.
I didn't run to the finish line"
Clement admitted, talking about his fourth-place finish at the 2005
World Championships.
"I learned from that experience. Today I just told
myself to run through the line and that's what I did."
"It's a
tremendous feeling" the victorious Clement said, before adding "The
future is bright".
