LaShawn is pictured above prior to the start of the mens 4x400m relay final at the 2008 Olympic
Games in Beijing. Merritt, who ran the first leg, teamed up with Angelo Taylor, David Neville and
Jeremy Wariner to strike gold for the USA in an Olympic record time of 2.55.39. It completed
a memorable few days for LaShawn who had earlier ran a superb race to win gold in the
individual 400m (see previous below).

Olympic Games in Beijing. LaShawn (far right) produced a sensational performance to win the gold
medal in a new PB time of 43.75 secs, with the silver going to pre-race favourite Jeremy Wariner
(3rd from the left) and the bronze to David Neville (far left) as the USA completed a clean sweep
of the medals. The middle inset picture shows Merritt as he crosses the line whilst in the left hand
photo the smile says it all as the 22 year old savours his surprise success.
