In one of the more unexpected results of the 2013 World Championships in Moscow was the easy victory
of LeShawn Merritt over Olympic and World Champion Karani James in the closing event (men's 400 metres)
of the fourth day. LaShawn (43.73) won the race in convincing style from fellow American Tony Mcquay (44.40)
with James way back in seventh place (44.99). Merritt thus regained the title he first won in Berlin 2009 whilst
at the same time recording the fastest 400m seen in 2013 and his own personal best time for the distance.
LaShawn Merritt was of course the 2008 (Beijing) Olympic Champion.
In 2013 James's P.B. was 43.94 - his 2012 Olympic winning time.
