| Walter is pictured above during the heats of the mens 200m at the
2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Dix went on to qualify for the final and
initially finished in 5th place in a time of 19.98 secs. However,
Churandy Martina and Wallace Spearmon, who had finished 2nd and 3rd
respectively, were later disqualified for running out of their lanes,
meaning that Dix was elevated into the bronze medal position. This was
Walter's second bronze medal of the Games following his success in the
100m, details of which can be seen on the previous page. |

The race action pictures above show the closing few metres of the
mens 100m final at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Usain Bolt (lane
4) won the gold medal in a sensational new world record time of 9.69,
with Walter Dix (lane 6) taking bronze in a time of 9.91, two hundredths of a
second behind the silver medallist, Trinidad's Richard Thompson (lane
5). Walter's time was a new PB for the 100m and brought him his first
medal at a major championship, with his second coming a few days later
in the 200m (see above). Dix later commented: "I was planning to get
out of the blocks and win this race, but unfortunately he did it. I
know I have much more to do. But I'm proud to be on that podium for
America." The left hand photo above shows Walter in full flow during the
100m heats.
