Geoff is pictured above (without the helmet) shaking hands with Mark
Taylor after the pair had reached the 300 run milestone in their opening
partnership against England in the 5th Test at Trent Bridge in August
1989. The partnership was finally broken with the score on 329 which, at
the time, was a record opening stand for Test cricket in England. Marsh
and Taylor's efforts helped Australia amass a mammoth 602-6 declared
and they then skittled England for 255 and 167 to annihilate their
oldest rivals by an innings and 180 runs. That put Australia 4-0 up in
the 6 match series and a draw in the final Test at The Oval saw the
scoreline stay that way.
