Derek Underwood is pictured above - right of photo - congratulating Mike Hendrick
(2nd right) after he had dismissed Gordon Greenidge in the West Indies
1st innings of the drawn 1st Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham in June
1976. Unfortunately the smiles did not last long for England as
Greendige's departure saw the arrival of a certain Viv Richards at the
crease who proceeded to make 232 before Derek had him caught by Tony
Greig. Underwood was the pick of the England bowlers in the Windies 1st
innings, picking up 4-82 in his 27 overs. Mike Brearley is left of
picture whilst John Edrich, who took the catch to dismiss Greenidge, is
the player receiving a pat on the back from Hendrick.
He died on 15th April 2024 aged 78.
