The main photo above shows Ian during his terrific knock of 119 in England's 1st innings of the 3rd Test against Pakistan at Headingley, Leeds in August 2006. Bell's efforts helped England record a comfortable 167 runs victory, thus giving them an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 4 match series. The inset picture shows the bizarre moment as Ian and fellow batsman Paul Collingwood were instructed to leave the field of play by umpire Darrell Hair in the 4th Test at The Oval. Pakistan refused to play on following allegations of ball tampering and the Test was awarded to England. This was the first occurrence of a team winning when the opposition refused to continue playing in the history of Test cricket. However, in July 2008, in a somewhat strange twist, the result was overturned and the match deemed to be a draw! Ian enjoyed an excellent series with the bat against Pakistan that summer, scoring 375 runs at an average of 93.75. In doing so he scored centuries in 3 successive Tests; 100* at Lord's, 106* at Old Trafford and 119 at Headingley. He was the first English batsman to achieve the feat of being a 3 Tests in a row centurion since Graham Gooch scored 154 (v New Zealand), 333/123 (v India) and 116 (v India) in 1990.
