Kevin Pietersen is pictured above during his knock of 45 in England's 1st innings of the 4th Test against
Australia at Trent Bridge, Nottingham in August 2005. England posted an imposing total of 477 and a fine
bowling performance saw Australia following on after they had been dismissed for 218. The Australians fared
better second time around, making 387 all out, to set England a winning target of 129 which they managed
for the loss of 7 wickets in yet another tense finish. Kevin played his part in England's run chase, chipping in
with a vital 23 before snicking one to Adam Gilchrist off the bowling off Brett Lee. The 2005 Ashes series was
Pietersen's introduction to Test cricket and what a start it proved to be; his 473 runs - the most in the series
by any batsman on either side - coming at the impressive average of 52.56. The high point was undoubtedly
KP's marvellous innings of 158 in the 5th and final Test at The Oval which secured England the draw that they
needed to clinch a 2-1 series victory, their first Ashes win since back in 1986/87.
