(The pictures above show Anil during his terrific knock of 110 not out in India's 1st innings of the 3rd Test against England at The Oval in August 2007. It was Kumble's first Test century - the right hand photo shows him acknowledging the crowd after reaching the landmark - and helped India post a daunting total of 664 all out. India's score was their highest ever against England, eclipsing their previous best of 628-8 at Headingley in 2002, and until Anil reached his personal milestone their total looked set to become the highest ever recorded in Test cricket without a century. A gritty performance from England in their 2nd innings saw the match eventually finish in a draw but India took the honours courtesy of their victory in the 2nd Test at Trent Bridge. It was only the third ever series win in England for India, the previous successes coming in 1971 & 1986.)
