Joel Garner is pictured above during his terrific spell of 23.5-7-55-5
in England's 2nd innings of the 1st Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham in
June 1984. Garner's efforts - he also took 4-53 in England's 1st innings
- helped the West Indies to a crushing innings & 80 run victory.
That set the tone for the remainder of the series and the Windies went
on to complete a 5-0 'blackwash'. 'Big Bird' also enjoyed a memorable
series on a personal level, his 29 wickets coming at 18.62 apiece.
Joel
took a particular liking to England during his career, his 19 Tests
against them bringing 92 wickets at an average of just 17.93, compared
to his overall average, which was still hugely impressive, of 20.98.
Garner was never on the losing side in those 19 Tests, the West Indies
winning 13 and drawing 6.
