(Michael is pictured above during the 1979 World Cup final against England at Lord's. Sadly for Mikey he failed to trouble the scorers that day - he was bowled by Ian Botham - so our photographer did rather well to get this snap! Holding fared much better with the ball, returning the excellent figures of 8-1-16-2 as the West Indies dismissed England for 194 to record a 92 run victory, thus retaining the trophy they had won four years earlier at the inaugural World Cup. Michael took a particular liking to England during his Test career, his 21 Tests against them yielding 96 wickets at an average of 21.16, compared to his overall bowling average of 23.69. He fared even better with the bat, scoring 468 runs at the impressive average of 24.63 (his overall average was 13.79), including his Test best score of 73 in his very last Test against England at St. John's, Antigua in April 1986. Michael also made three of his five other half centuries against England; 58* at Antigua in 1981, 69 at Edgbaston in 1984 and 59 at Headingley, again in '84.)
