Luton Town's tremendous goal poacher Brian Stein, a striker known for always finding the right place in the net for the ball and assessing the keeper's position, won one solitary cap for England in a 2-0 defeat to France in Paris in February 1984 (the photo above is during the game). He was a forward in form at the time, and would be so at an overachieving Luton team for the rest of the decade, but at international level, with the emergence of Gary Lineker and Peter Beardsley in particular, he was not deemed worthy of a recall afterwards.
