David UNSWORTH - England - Biography 1995

Everton's stocky centre back David Unsworth was one of numerous untried defenders Terry Venables chose to look at during the 1995 Umbro Trophy tournament. Unsworth played alongside fellow debutant John Scales in a 2-1 win over Japan (the photo above is during the game) and wasn't picked again afterwards, with the absence of other new players from subsequent sqauds suggesting that Venables was happier with the players he'd rested over the summer. Unsworth played in the Premiership for more than ten years afterwards but never got a look-in when it came to international duty. (Matthew Rudd)
