David WHITE - England - Biography 1992

David White, a right sided midfielder with composure and crossing ability, was a vindication of Manchester City's productive youth policy of the 1980s when Graham Taylor called him up for England in 1992 for a friendly against Spain, England's first match after the summer's disappointing European Championship finals. White rounded the goalkeeper in the opening minutes but missed the target, and was later substititued by Paul Merson as England lost 1-0. Taylor didn't ask him back, surprisingly, although ultimately injuries would nullify his progress as a player. (Matthew Rudd)
