The inset pictures above show Jamie Carragher placing the ball on the spot for
each of his 'two' penalties in the
shoot-out against Portugal at the
2006 World Cup. Jamie scored with his first effort only for the
referee to insist that the kick was retaken as he had not blown his
whistle. The Liverpool defender,
who had only entered the fray in the
118th minute with, presumably, penalties in mind, missed second
time
round and when Cristiano Ronaldo coolly slotted home the next kick
England were out of the tournament.
