Alan Ball moved to Everton from Blackpool in August 1966 for a fee of £110, 000, shortly after
playing a starring role for England in their memorable World Cup triumph. He spent just over
five years on Merseyside, scoring 66 goals in 208 league appearances, before a £220, 000 transfer
to Arsenal in December 1971. It was a move that shocked the Goodison faithful as only months
earlier manager Harry Catterick had stated that he would not even sell Ball for £1 million!
He is pictured above during the 0-0 draw against Leicester City on 27th November 1971.
