Andy Gray joined Everton in November 1983 for a fee of £250,000 from
Wolverhampton Wanderers. Many believed the Scot's best days were well
behind him but Gray proved the doubters wrong in spectacular fashion,
playing no small part in Everton's fantastic success over the next
couple of years. The arrival of Gary Lineker spelt the end of Andy's
time on Merseyside and despite petitions from angry Evertonians the
hugely popular Scot moved to Aston Villa for £150,000 in the summer of
1985.
