When Henry Newton joined Everton from Nottingham Forest for £150,000
(plus Tommy Jackson) in October 1970 he became the third most expensive
British player behind Martin Peters and Allan Clarke. It was not a move that
worked out for Newton however and he often found himself played out of
position during his time at Goodison. Therefore, it was no surprise when he
returned to the East Midlands with a £110,000 move to Derby County
in September 1973.
