After retiring from professional football, Turner worked as a PE teacher and moved
to the Republic of Ireland, becoming a teacher at the Our Lady's Secondary School
in Belmullet and coaching the school's football team. He retired in 2024 after 28 years
at the school.
Together with several Ipswich team-mates, Turner took part in the 1981 film Escape to Victory
known as just Victory in North America.
