Les Sealey is pictured above keeping goal for Manchester United during the 3-3 draw
with Manchester City.
Les was dramatically called up by United manager Alex Ferguson to
replace Jim Leighton for the 1990 FA Cup final replay following a poor
display by the Scotsman in the first game at Wembley, which finished
3-3. Sealey's fine performance in the 1-0 victory earned him a contract
for the following season and he went on to play in the European Cup
Winners' Cup Final as United enjoyed a memorable 2-1 success against the
mighty Barcelona.
Les also played in the 2-1 League Cup Final defeat
against Sheffield Wednesday. He moved to Aston Villa in July 1991
following the arrival of Peter Schmeichel but the popular Londoner
returned to Old Trafford in January 1993 as cover for the Dane. He
appeared in only two games but one of these was yet another Cup Final!
Sadly it ended in defeat as United went down 3-1 to his former club
Aston Villa in the 1994 League Cup Final.

After leaving Manchester United Les Sealey played a further fifty five games for another seven clubs, the last two for
West Ham United where he was then
employed as their goalkeeping coach. Les was still employed as West Ham's
goalkeeper coach when he died of a heart attack on 19 August 2001 at the age of 43. One of Sealey's pupils at
West Ham was Stephen Bywater who wore the number 43 on his shirt as an homage to his former coach.
