The pictures show Wayne Rooney being tackled by Chelsea's Paulo Ferreira during the Premiership match at Stamford Bridge, which Chelsea won 3-0 to retain their title.The Champions' victory was totally overshadowed by the tackle shown above which resulted in Wayne sustaining a broken metatarsal bone in his right foot. It happened when Ferreira's shin bent Rooney's foot (see inset photo) as the Manchester United player was attacking down the left side of the field late in the game. The injury seemed likely to cost Rooney his chance to appear in the 2006 World Cup Finals in Germany but he made a remarkable recovery and was part of England's 23 man squad.
