Brazilian midfielder Emerson moved to Middlesbrough from Portuguese
club Benfica in the summer of 1996.
He was never really able to settle in the rather colder climate of the
North East and moved on to Spanish club Tenerife midway through the
1997-98 season. Emerson is pictured above during the 3-3 draw with
Chesterfield in the semi-final of the F.A. Cup.
