After serving Newcastle superbly for nine years Irving Nattrass moved on to local rivals
Middlesbrough in the summer of 1979 for a fee of £375,000.

Irving was a product of United's youth system. He originally started out his Newcastle career
as a midfielder before settling into the right back berth. He scored his first league goal for the
club in a 3-1 home win against Tottenham on 8th January 1972.
