John Barnes joined Newcastle on a free transfer from Liverpool in August 1997 after serving the Merseyside
club with great distinction over a 10 year period. Remarkably his tally of six league goals in his first season
on Tyneside made him Newcastle's leading scorer, the Magpies finding the net just 35 times in 38 league games.
John is pictured above during the 1-0 win against Sheffield United on 5th April 1998 in the semi-final of the F.A. Cup.
