Phil O'Connell returned to Motherwell in 2004 on a free transfer. In December 2007 he collapsed
during a game against Dundee United and died just after 5.00 pm that evening at Wishaw
General Hospital. He was thirty five years old (and the club captain) he left a wife and four young children.
