Ray Train moved to Roker Park in an £80,000 deal from Carlisle United in
March 1976. Of his 12 appearances in the 1975/76 season he was on the
losing side just twice as Sunderland clinched the Division Two
championship. He played 20 league games the following campaign in the
top flight before a return to Division Two with a £35,000 move to
Bolton Wanderers in March 1977, whom he promptly helped to promotion.
Ray is pictured above during the 2-0 defeat against Birmingham City.
