Steve Berry moved to Roker Park on a free transfer from Portsmouth in the summer of 1984
and was a regular during the 1984/85 campaign. Sadly Sunderland were relegated at the end
of that season and following the arrival of Lawrie McMenemy as manager and several new players,
Steve found himself out of favour. He made just one appearance during the 1985/86 season before
moving on to Newport County in December 1985. He is pictured above during the 1-0 defeat
against Chelsea on 27th August 1984.
