Cameroon international Marc-Vivien Foe was brought to Upton Park by Harry Redknapp for £4.2m
in January 1999. The West Ham manager did not want to lose the midfielder but, with the Hammers
short of money and desperate to bring Lyon striker Frederic Kanoute to the club, it was agreed that
Foe should move in the opposite direction.
