The main photo above shows Barry driving on the 16th hole during the final
round of the 2004 Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters. The bottom left
inset picture shows a thoughtful Lane eyeing up the tough shot he faced out
of the thick rough on the 16th. He produced a quite magnificent pitch (see
inset shot, two in bottom left) to leave himself 25 feet from the flag and
went on to sink the putt for a quite remarkable birdie. That all but secured
the title for Barry and he can seen above holding aloft the trophy, his first
success on the European Tour since his win at the 1994 Turespaña Open de
Baleares. The other two inset shots show Lane chipping delicately from the

back of the green on the 17th and lining up a putt on the 15th.

Barry Lane died on 31st January 2022 aged 62. He made 693 starts on the European Tour

later known as the DP World Tour, a figure put Lane fourth on the Tour's all-time appearance list.

Lane took up golf aged 14 and joined the Tour in 1982. His first victory came in the 1988 Scottish Open

at Gleneagles and he went on to win the 1992 German Masters, the 1993 European Masters,

the 1994 Turespana Open de Baleares and The 2004 British Masters.
