The main photo above shows Padraig pitching to the 18th green
during the final round of the 2007 Open Championship at Carnoustie.
The Irishman produced a terrific shot under great pressure and then
rolled in the putt but it seemed it would be be to little to late
as two visits to the water meant he carded a double bogey 6.
However,a bogey 5 by Sergio Garcia at the
18th meant the two Ryder Cup heroes would play-off for
the famous old claret jug and it was Padraig who immediately took
control by making birdie 3 to Garcia's bogey 5 at the first extra hole.
Harrington finished
the remaining three extra holes par-par-bogey compared to Garcia's
par-par-parfinish,meaning the popular Irishman won the title by 1 shot.
He can be seen in the top inset pictures enjoying the moment of victory -
his first at a major championship.
