John Hipwell was a regular for Australia following
his debut against New Zealand in 1968
but then
played just three tests over a five year period
between 1976-80.
He played four Tests in 1981
and then finished his international career the
following year
against England at Twickenham,
by which time he was 34 years of age.
He captained Australia nine times.

John Hipwell was just outside Ballina in Northern Rivers region of NSW on
Monday 23rd
September 2013 when he suddenly collapsed and died, aged 65,
from a suspected heart attack.
