(The photo above shows Martyn,
ball in hand, confronted by the Irish
centre pairing of Andrew Trimble (12)
and Brian O'Driscoll during the narrow
16-12 win against Ireland in the 2008
Six Nations Championship. The victory
kept alive Welsh hopes of the Grand
Slam and they completed the job with
a commanding 29-12 win against
France in the final fixture. Martyn
actually retired from the international
game after the World Cup but it proved
to be one of the shortest retirements
in history with him quickly returning to
the fold under new coach Warren
Gatland! It proved to be an inspired
decision by both men, with Williams
starting all five games in the back row
alongside Jonathan Thomas and new
captain Ryan Jones, with the icing on
the cake coming in the 29-12 win
against France when Martyn scored
the second Welsh try.)
