Andy MURRAY - Great Britain & N.I. - Olympic Gold and first Grand Slam title.

In the summer of 2012 Great Britain hosted the Olympic Games and the tennis was played at Wimbledon

- the most famous tennis venue in the world. To the joy of the British public Andy Murray won the event !

He beat the 2012 Wimbledon Champion Roger Federer (to whom he had lost at that year's annual championship) and at last the Scot,

who had lost every Grand Slam final (four) he had previously reached, was The Champion.  But more was to come.

Thirty six days later in New York he became the first British male tennis player in seventy six years to win a Grand Slam

event, when he took the US Open title from Novak Djokovic, on Monday September 10th. On that very same day most of Britain's Olympic

teams were being feted on the streets of London in front of tens and tens of thousands of cheering people.  Maybe Andy heard them.

Fred Perry was the last British player to win a major, in 1936. Andy is pictured above during his first and third round matches at The Games.
