Serena won her thirteenth Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in her 31st. year proving the illness that had restricted her
activities the year before was in the past - but not her. And her fitness was as good as ever.
She followed her Wimbledon win with the Gold medal at the Olympic Games where in her first match (against Jelena Jankovic)
even saw her doing the splits on the relaid grass (PHOTO ABOVE). She beat Mario Sharapova 6-0 6-1 in the final.
The Olympics were, of course, at Wimbledon.
Then it was off to the U.S. the next month to recapture the title she last won there in 2008 - fourteen years
after her first U.S. Open win !
